THE DOLOMITES: a UNESCO world heritage site

On 26th June 2009, UNESCO included the limestone mountains in the North East of Italy in the list of the world's loveliest landscapes. This means that the United Nations has officially acknowledged the uniqueness and special features of the Dolomites through its organisation for education, science and culture. Now the Dolomites, with famous peaks like the Marmolada (3,342 m), the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (2,999 m), the Averau (2,649 m), the Sciliar (2,563 m), the Pale di San Martino (3,192 m) and Monte Pelmo (3,169 m) to name just a few, are rightly recognised as some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.
